According to a source who spoke with NorthJersey.com, the two sides have reached a one-year contract agreement, and the two-time Pro Bowler will be present when veterans return for training camp on Tuesday.
The deal might be worth up to $11 million, and according to a source with knowledge of the circumstances, it also includes a $2 million signing bonus.
Barkley was designated as the franchise player for the Giants earlier this offseason, and if a long-term contract couldn't be reached by July 17, he was due to get $10.1 million this season. If he didn't obtain an extension, he had said he might hold out for the full season.
Barkley and the Giants were still able to negotiate a one-year contract beyond the deadline of July 17 because to the NFL's franchise tag regulations, but they were not able to extend his contract until after this season.
The franchise tag for the upcoming year is not mentioned in the new agreement. Barkley can therefore be tagged again in March of 2019 at 120% of his 2023
salary, which should now range between $12 and $13 million.
The Giants made the playoffs for the first time in Barkley's five NFL seasons last year as he rushed for a career-high 1,312 yards and matched for the team lead with 57 receptions.
