- The London Olympics opening ceremony begins at 21:00 BST. Live video coverage is on BBC One and online (UK only) from 19:00 BST
- Up to one billion people worldwide are expected to watch the opening ceremony on television along with 80,000 in the Olympic Stadium
- The identity of the person who will light the Olympic cauldron at the end of the ceremony remains a tightly-guarded secret
